Flu vaccination for retail and supermarkets

Customer-facing staff carry higher exposure and the rota rarely has anyone spare. Both facts have to be designed around.

The constraint

Retail has the highest customer contact rate of any sector we work in and some of the thinnest cover. Most of the workforce is part-time, rotas are published only a few weeks ahead, and a store cannot release colleagues from the shop floor during trading peaks.

How we run it

Clinic dates set against published rotas

We book once the rota is out rather than before, so attendance can be planned into shifts rather than added on top.

Pre-open and post-close windows

Clinics before doors open or after close avoid pulling anyone off the floor during trading.

Store-by-store sequencing

For multi-store estates we run a regional sequence and consolidate reporting rather than leaving individual store managers to arrange their own.

Vouchers for the long tail

Small-format stores and part-timers whose shifts never align are covered by vouchers instead.

Why exposure matters here

Retail staff have more distinct human contacts in a shift than almost any other occupational group. That raises both their own risk of acquiring influenza and their likelihood of transmitting it onward while symptomatic but still working, which in a sector with high presenteeism is common.

The operational argument is simpler than the clinical one: a store that loses three colleagues in a week during December has a real problem, and vaccination is the cheapest available mitigation.

The standard service

From £11.99 per person, reducing with team size. Quadrivalent vaccine, individual clinical screening, pharmacist administration, anaphylaxis cover and uptake reporting within 48 hours, all included. No setup fee, and you pay only for vaccinations actually given.

Common questions

Can you vaccinate before the store opens?

Yes. Pre-open and post-close clinics are standard for retail clients.

How do we cover part-time staff?

We schedule against the published rota so attendance falls inside paid shifts. Anyone whose shifts never align is covered by vouchers.

Can you cover a whole store estate?

Yes. We run regional sequences with consolidated reporting rather than leaving each store to organise separately.
