Flu vaccination in 2026/27: what employers need to confirm
The season’s official vaccine recommendations, autumn timing and four checks to make before inviting your team.
The useful update for employers: England’s 2026/27 programme confirms an October start for most NHS adult flu vaccination, lists trivalent preferred vaccines and changes some adult vaccine recommendations. For a private workplace clinic, confirm the actual product, suitable ages and date with your pharmacy.
What is different in the 2026/27 recommendations?
The national programme letter, updated on 9 June 2026, lists all preferred available vaccines as trivalent. It also changes the positioning of cell-cultured vaccine for adults aged 65 and over and permits high-dose vaccine off-label for certain 50–59-year-olds in clinical risk groups. These are clinical recommendations for the national programme, not instructions for HR to choose a product.
Does the NHS start date set our company’s clinic date?
The main NHS adult programme in England starts on 1 October, with exceptions including pregnancy. Its timing reflects waning protection. This is useful context for planning, but it does not automatically establish the date, funding or product for every private employer clinic. Ask the pharmacy about your workforce and proposed timing. National arrangements elsewhere in the UK differ.

The June amendment: wider NHS access
The 9 June amendment expands the planned community-pharmacy offer for children and adds certain people experiencing homelessness aged 16 and over to the national programme. These changes concern NHS eligibility and delivery; they do not automatically add family members or children to a privately booked workplace clinic.

What should we ask before we send the staff invitation?
- Which product is planned, and is the service suitable for the ages attending?
- Are the clinic date, staffing and supply arrangements confirmed?
- How will employees receive information if the product or timetable changes?
- What route will colleagues who cannot attend use?
Should a supply headline change our plans?
A headline is not confirmation of the stock available for your booking. Ask your provider about your proposed clinic rather than assuming a delay affects every vaccine or every supplier. This article does not claim that a national delivery delay has been established.
